The Introductory Booklet (aka An Introduction to "How Does Your Engine Run?"® The Alert Program® for Self-Regulation) is the same information as written in the first chapter of the Leader's Guide. We pulled out the first chapter and made a booklet since we had so many inquiries about an overview to share with other team members. For example, if a parent is teaching the Alert Program® to her son at home, she might give the Intro Booklet to her son's teacher for carryover of the concepts at school. Or a therapist, who is teaching the Alert Program® to her client in a therapy clinic, might give this booklet to the child's parent or teacher. And for those who are working with adult clients, the Intro Booklet is a helpful overview to share with other educational or medical team members. Read more in our Blog.
The Leader's Guide (aka "How Does Your Engine Run?"® A Leader's Guide to the Alert Program® for Self-Regulation) provides the foundation for beginning to learn how to implement the Alert Program®: it explains the theory, along with step-by-step instructions and easy-to-implement activities. It was written to teach children how to identify and change how alert they feel, initially using the analogy of an engine. If a child is non-verbal or has special interests (such as a love of dinosaurs), instead of using the engine analogy, the program can be customized and easily adapted.
Since the time that book was published, so many new ways of adapting and using the information have been developed. All of this new information is available in the Alert Program® Online Course for you to build upon the foundation of these basic activities. Read more in our Blog.
